Saturday Is Free Comic Book Day

You want to promote reading? Stimulate a young mind? Open a new world to your daughter or son? Relive those virtually forgotten days gone by of your youth? You want to do something different? How about simply getting out of the house to avoid the yard work that's been calling to you since the weather's gotten clearer and the snows have receded?

If so, you are in luck. Because this weekend marks the 12th annual rendition of Free Comic Book Day (FCBD), traditionally held the first Saturday of May.

For those not in the know, FCBD is an annual event where participating comic book store retailers give away specially printed copies of free comics as well as offer offer cheaper back issues, special promotions and other items to anyone who visits their establishments. (You can find out more about FCBD's history here.)

Comics. There not just for kids anymore. (Really ... have they ever been?)
