It was around August of 2012 Steve Richter started his Cartoon Caption Contest.

And that means I've been contributing captions for 12 years.

But it wasn't until this latest competition I actually won coveted bragging rights in the form of first runner-up!

Peanuts' Franklin Armstrong

You see things on the internet and it's incredibly easy to take them for fact. 

And that's why a little due diligence was in order regarding character Franklin Armstrong and his initial appearance in Charles M. Schulz' "Peanuts" comic strip. 

Sure enough, what I originally saw was in fact true - Franklin did indeed debut on this very day, July 31st, 50 years ago. As a life-long Peanuts fan, I'm happy to report I can still learn something new about one of the comic strips I grew up with.

Happy 50th, Franklin!
