Get Up, Get Going

As I've gotten older I've found - and especially in the last year - my "buddy" Insomnia runs a continuous free-for-all event somewhere inside my body with exactly zero sign of surcease any time in the immediate future.

For the most part, I don't have a problem with this. I've rarely required much sleep (I subsist on 5-6 hours regularly) and it behooves my schedule for the most part. I'm continuously doing something and, currently, I'm busier than ever. Trips, writing, drawing, various household projects, etc. My hours awake are rarely wasted. And in truth it's rather difficult to accomplish any of my activities while slumbering.

But, Insomnia is a sly, sometimes devious devil.

With the time change this morning, it was comforting knowing after a pretty full day of outdoor chores I would be relishing in that extra hour of sleep. I beat myself up physically Saturday and I knew my body needed a little recovery time.

Fat chance I'd be getting it though. I was up just after 3:00 a.m. this morning. And that was prior to changing the clocks.

I mean ... I don't have a problem getting up early. But I did take a few minutes to consider whether or not I really needed to get the coffee maker running at that hour knowing there was a full day yet ahead ...

Flawed Logic

... and then this conversation happened this morning ...

"Hey, the time change is this weekend, isn't it?"

"Yes! I'm so excited! That means I won't have to get up as early to drive to Lodi Monday morning!"

"Ermmmm ... actually you will ..."

"No, because of the time change I won't have to."

"Hokay ... so applying that logic, from this Monday forward until the time changes back once again in March next year, I expect you to not say one word about getting up early. Because, you know, you won't be getting up as early. Because of the time change."

" . . . . . . . . . . . . "

An Annoying Habit

I'm one of those rare (some might say "annoying") individuals who can get up at a time of my choosing without any sort of alarm clock.

Flight out at 6 in the morning? I know I need to be up at 3:30 to ready myself and scoot on out to the airport to be on time without an alarm blaring me upright. 7:00 o'clock appointment downtown somewhere? Same. Best time to view that meteor shower at oh four dark thirty Thursday morning? I'm up and at'em without a problem. Rarely has this talent (or freak of nature ability, call it what you will) failed me.

That being said, this past Sunday's time change was of exactly zero concern to me.

Truth be told, I still have yet to change the household clocks over from their Daylight Saving Time settings. Which, in and of itself, is a bit odd because I'm usually on top of these things.

What time was I up on Sunday morning? Per my nightside clock just before 6:00 o'clock, which was actually just before 5:00 o'clock because, again, I hadn't yet made any time corrections. (And yes ... a 5:00 o'clock Sunday morning awakening is pretty normal for me. Sunday morning sleep ins ceased to be "a thing" long, long, l o n g ago.)

So, there you have it. Hate me for that little quirk if you must. Or be envious.

In the meantime, access this link and be informed why Daylight Saving Time is a terrific concept.

Joy To The World ... Again!

Yay! Daylight Saving Time is here again!

Advantages of this time period include:

  • Summertime!
  • Better use of daylight hours!
  • Summer days!
  • Fewer road accidents resulting in fewer road injuries!
  • More social time for everyone as outdoor activity is increased!
  • Electricity savings because you are out of the house and using less in your house!

Know who else observes DST? Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bermuda, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Falkland Islands, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Gaza Strip, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Greenland, Haiti, Vatican City, Hungary, Iran, Ireland, Isle of Man, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kosovo, Latvia, Lebanon, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Republic of Macedonia, Malta, Mexico, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, The Bahamas, Turkey, Turks and Caicos Islands, Ukraine, United Kingdom, West Bank, Western Sahara and more will be joining most of the United States! Which means any of you who are cranky about the coming time change can be comforted in the fact you'll be doing so - if the need strikes you - internationally!

*McWoot ... !!!*

And that's hand-in-hand coming together ... isn't it?

Love, peace and understanding, people ... love, peace and understanding.

And ... if I know most of you, you've already used up your allotment of naps for the year already ...

Happy Daylight Saving Time! (I don't need to tell you to spring ahead one hour when you go to bed Saturday night, do I? Because you've lived long enough to remember this ... I'm certain of it.)
