Get It Right

People of Earth!

Get it right, already! It's "Daylight Saving Time" ... not "Daylight Savings Time" ... !!!

November 2nd we turn our clocks back an hour. We get an extra hour in the early morning to party a little longer or to get in an extra 60 minutes of our favorite program or absorb a smidgen more sleep for our overloaded bodies.

It's called "Daylight Saving Time."It's not time to visit the institution where deposits of daylight are stored away for a rainy day. There aren't any "savings," either daylight nor of time. In other words it's not "Daylight Savings Time."

Got it? Get it? Good ...

  1. Actually, it is neither. In Fall we set the clocks back and go back to Standard Time. Daylight Saving Time is through the summer months to allow for an "extra" hour of sunlight in the evening. Let's get it right.

  2. Of course you're right, Nyela.

    Foolish mistake on my part.

In my haste and single-minded pursuit of a little late night mini-rant, I failed to mention the ending of Daylight Saving Time and the return of Standard Time.

Whereas I didn't out and out call the return to the normal "standard" time "Daylight Saving Time," I did intimate as such. Just goes to show you I'm not above making mistakes. They are what I learn from. I make'em often ... and I own up to this one.

And, in all sincerity, you pointing it out to me is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It appears I'm the one who needs to "get it right" ...

  3. Given a choice in today's society, reading articulately written rants can sometimes be more enjoyable than technical accuracy. Or, to mangle James Cagney's line from Yankee Doodle, I'd rather be right than President ... but literate beats them both!
